We have discussed Zones and standards relating to working in a potentially hazardous Area. Looking briefly at Protection concepts such as Ex d,e n, o,p q, m nL equipment.

Selecting the associated glands used for termination into this equipment.

We have touched briefly on the concept of Intrinsic Safety, discussing the 3 main protection concepts Ex ia, Ex ib and Ex ic, and their associated earthing arrangements. Including both types of associated apparatus, the Zener Barrier and Galvanic Barrier.

We have looked at Typical labels used for the marking of Hazardous area equipment.

And lastly we covered the topic of Inspections to determine the serviceability of equipment installed in Hazardous areas, the 3 grades of inspection using the IEC 60079 – 17 Tables.

We have discussed the use of certified portable equipment used in Hazardous Areas.

In the Workshop, we have conducted practical activities relating to glanding, through exposure using different types of cables employed in use today, such as SWA & SWB cables.

We have practically used E xd, e, nR & Barrier Glands in the making off of these cables. Through our Workshop activities we have also used the associated tools to crimp and terminate I.S belden cables.
